Welding is a high-risk job that poses great harm to the body, but due to its high salary, it still attracts a large number of young people to enter this industry like moths fighting fire.
Welders often suffer from various diseases and unbearable pain in old age.
In fact, some diseases can be avoided as long as safety measures are in place.
1. Wear protective clothing
Many welders do not wear protective equipment properly and wear and take off protective clothing at will because they are wearing hot protective gear or find it too heavy to move around.
Accidentally getting burned by sparks is a small matter, and exposing the skin for a long time can easily lead to skin diseases;
Not wearing protective goggles can cause excessive absorption of infrared radiation in the eyes, leading to a decline in vision and, in severe cases, glaucoma and electrooptic ophthalmia;
Not wearing a mask properly according to regulations can easily inhale smoke and dust particles that diffuse in the work environment into the lungs, leading to diseases such as metal poisoning, welding fumes and heat, and pneumoconiosis.
Welders should wear protective goggles, face masks, gloves, protective clothing, insulated shoes and other protective equipment before work. If working in a closed container with poor ventilation conditions, they should also wear a protective helmet with air supply performance.
2. Keep the working environment ventilated
The general impression of the welding working environment is that it is dirty, messy and poor. In a relatively closed environment, the smoke and dust particles generated in the air during the operation are often the culprits that damage the health of welders.
Ventilation methods can be divided into natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation.
Among them, mechanical ventilation relies on the pressure generated by the fan to exchange air, and the dust removal and detoxification effects are better than natural ventilation.
When welding in a room with poor natural ventilation or in a closed container, mechanical ventilation measures must be taken.
3. Improve safety awareness
Many welders do not realize that their safety protection is not in place. When their health is poor, they start to complain that the work is too hard and the harm is too great, and they suffer in their later years.
But in fact, if safety protection is in place, many diseases can be avoided, or at least the incidence rate will be greatly reduced.
The state stipulates that safety education and training must be carried out before applying for a new welder’s operating license, reviewing, or renewing the license, and this is also for this consideration.
Every time you participate in safety education and training and apply for a welder operator certificate, you are strengthening your safety awareness. Even if you don’t care, you will inadvertently pay more attention to safety precautions. Only when you really care about this matter and always pay attention to safety precautions can you truly reduce the chance of disease.
